Great value for the price and memorable experience from start to finish!
Easy to find location, convenient times to book last minute and wonderful way to view the area from the water in a comfortable boat for an hour! Highly recommend this trip to get a great appreciation for the deception pass - today we saw seals, bald eagles, harbor porpoises during a calm, relaxing boat ride. great for all ages and easy access on and off!

VIDEO: Baby Dungeness Crabs
A gazillion teeny tiny baby dungeness crabbies at our wash dock. If they survive from this ‘megalopa’ stage, another 4 years before they would be legal size. Not much of a scale to give you actual size, about 1/4 inch. Watch the video here.

Success on our whale trip this morning. We were fortunate to spend time with 20 transient orcas.

"Great Trip On a Beautiful Day"
Chartered the trip for a memorial / scattering ceremony. The crew were wonderfully accommodating. It was too early in the season for whales but the day turned out beautiful giving everyone a smooth ride. Also learned some interesting historical facts about the various spots.

"Come Early and You Will Be Awe-struck!!!"
Skipper Brett and Guide Jared did an awesome job, rivaling the excursions we did last year in Glacier Bay, Juneau & Ketchikan!!! We saw harbor seals, eagles and other wildlife AND amazing vistas of the surrounding archipelago islands - while thoroughly enjoying the company of very friendly & informative crew who treated us like family. We did the hour long jet-boat tour and it absolutely made our day!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose Deception Pass Tours?
Deception Pass Tours has professional crew members that are experts in their field. Not only will you get to the whales faster because our high speed catamaran can travel at speeds of up to 45 miles per hour when other boats are pushing 12 miles per hour, but you’ll get to have more time viewing the whales- which is the whole point on your Deception Pass Whale Watching tour!

How long will it take?
Deception Pass Whale Watching tours last 2.5-3 hours.

Will I get cold?
The Island Whaler is equipped with high tech cruiser suits to keep you warm. We also recommend that you dress in layers and wear gloves or mittens. The Island Whaler has been uniquely designed to deflect the majority of cruising wind off of passengers. We also have a heated compartment on the boat for extra warmth.

Where do I park?
All Summer Whale Watching passengers will check in at our store located at 5596 SR 20, Anacortes, WA 98221. Passengers will “suit up” over their clothing, and then drive to our dock. Our dock is located in the State Park. Since you’ll be parking in the State Park, they require a Discover Pass to park there, or you can use the daily pay station near the dock. Discover Passes are available at many sporting goods stores, and online for $30-$35 for the year. The daily charge for parking is $10. All parking fees go directly to Washington State, and are used for the parks.

What if it rains?
The Island Whaler is equipped with a special “roof” for rainy days. So, this means, we will run tours in nearly all weather conditions. However, we may take an alternate route during high wind warnings.

Do People Get Seasick?
Over 100,000 people have taken our tour without a single seasick encounter! This is because our catamaran style prevents the side to side rocking motion of larger single hull vessels. However, you may be the 1 person in 100,000 that does- so we recommend that anyone concerned about seasickness take a non-drowsy Dramamine the night before and the morning of the tour.

Am I Guaranteed To See Whales?
Whale Insurance from Deception Pass Tours is available before your tour for $10. If we don’t see whales, you’ll get to ride for free for life until you do!

Why should I drive up from Seattle?
Every Summer Whale Watching adventure gets to go through the whirlpools of Deception Pass! Our crew has navigated the waters of Deception Pass literally thousands of times, and will share tales of the history and notorious characters of Deception Pass during your tour!
